BACKED INSULATION (ROUGHLY 2FT X 2FT) this goes between 2 layers above motor
to stop heat transfer
2 ALUMINIUM HOOD
HINGE PLATES
you will also need ,
fillers, 1 Qt. Resin and hardener, and 2 sq. ft matting.
old broom handle
You must save and reuse the
nav light bracket underneath of your old hood as well as the bracket for the
hood prop.
The best time to wire the
hood is before you put the 2 halves together, remember you must run a ground
wire back from all lights now as electricity will not flow through
fibreglass.
Louvers should be all cut
and finished before 2 halves are put together, and start filling any chips
or air bubble holes now too. Use fibreglass based fillers (cut
in your marker lights now too)
The 2 halves should be
joined on the car you are installing it on to make sure proper shape and fit
will be achieved. I used many blocks of wood, clamps and 2 large
winch straps.
Put in all 4 bolts in
hinges and make sure it lays in properly. You may have to cut side off a bit
to get a good fit, and I have had to lower thickness at the corner closest
to the driver.
AS IT IS NOT A STEEL HOOD
YOU DO NOT NEED Amphicar seals. A 1/4 seal from hardware about 3/4 wide will
do. Sit it in not glued for the test.
Once the hood is ready, you
can start to glass the 2 halves. Using resin and fibreglass matting, glass
in a piece of hard wood in the area if the hood prop and the lock down area.
Wet down the centre area and install the sound proofing. Then wet down all
areas that will come in contact between the two halves. with precut matting,
wet it down and put in all areas that come in contact and sandwich 2 hafts
together, If it is not hot out this can be done with no major rust but it is
VERY messy so use lots of plastic to protect your car and motor. I would not
recommend doing this above 68 degrees or below 60.
Board sand flat areas and
fill in low and clamps pots and ready hood for paint.
You are looking at 10 to 15
hrs. of work to do this job
