Amphicar winter lay up

before you put you car away for 1 month or more you should do the list of services below

1.  Fill gas tank up and add a can of fuel stabilizer and some lead substitute. Turn fuel shut off to the Off position and check sediment bowl for water and dirt .The motor will run for a few minutes with this in the off position to let gas burn out of the carburetor. Do this when you are totally done and ready to store the car.

2. Change engine oil and filter at least once a year even if it only has a few miles on it. Use  HD 30w or 10W 40 top line Truck oils.  Check air filters. all fluids,  radiator , etc.

3. Grease all fittings, there are a total of 28.  See page 14 in owners manual, oil hinges(8).

4 Repack front wheel bearings, if you have Bearing buddies make sure you  re- epoxy them back on.

5. Check Trans. Oils, if there is any sign of water (oil goes whitish)   Drain all gear oil out and refill (I recommend Amsoil marine 85-90)

6. Clean out the bottom of floor of any sign of water and oils and put in a bit of Bilge clears (Marine product) This may mean that you have to remove the front seat and floor boards.

7, check the operation of all safety equipment and bilge pumps while car is apart.

8. Check the condition of all hoses, especially the oil cooler hoses.

9. Fill tires with air for winter. Radials 35 lbs.  Reset to proper Amphicar specs. In spring.

10. Store with convertible top up and windows in.

11. put a layer of wax on all chrome parts and leave thin layer on till spring.

12. Disconnect the battery.

 

If this is the First year you have used the car with a fresh engine rebuild have the Cylinder head re torqued and lifters reset.
